Nobu Hotel Los Cabos Wedding
Nobu Hotel Los Cabos Wedding.
The (brief) story of how you met/fell in love: Derek and Chelsea met and were connected through coworkers and happy hours while working at St. David's South Austin Medical Center over ten years ago. Derek likes to joke and will tell you that he knew Chelsea years before during his college days at Texas State University. Both Derek and Chelsea attended the university during the same time frame, and who knows if their paths unknowingly crossed. What we can be sure of is that their chance of meeting was predetermined and what started as a friendship planted the seed to a partnership and a love that neither was willing to give up on.

1. Did you always know you wanted to have a destination wedding? (please elaborate):
Not at first, originally Chelsea wanted to have a wedding in their hometown of Austin. As the years passed in their relationship and their love of travel grew, a destination wedding just seemed like the perfect way to celebrate their love. Chelsea and Derek went to Cabo San Lucas in 2016 and fell in love with the city, food, atmosphere, etc. They both knew after that trip that they wanted to do a destination wedding in Cabo with their closest family and friends.
2. What made you choose your resort/destination?
We originally chose Hard Rock Los Cabos after using Destination Weddings to plan our special day. There was a delay in the resort being available and the alternative arrangements were to be moved over to Nobu, their sister resort. What started out as a nervous planning experience of the unknown turned out to be a resort and an experience we could not have predicted. It was absolutely perfect!
3. How did you personalize your ceremony and reception?
I had envisioned our wedding as a bohemian theme that included lots of greenery, eucalyptus, geometric style but wanted to stay light and airy for a destination wedding on the beach. I wanted a timeless look and for the natural background to be the focal point. We stuck with light colors with a pop of Bellini peach and it really came out perfect. I worked with the resort wedding team to customize our package in meeting the theme we desired. I also brought key items that would customize our wedding (cake topper/decor, bar signage, table tents and place holders, etc).
4. The funniest or most unusual moment was when...
No unusual moments, we were so happy that everyone connected so well and made lifelong friendships. I would say that that Bachelorette party was the funniest as we held our festivities at the resort pool. We rented a cabana and the bride's friends did an amazing job with the decor, even had customized tattoos of the grooms face. Even the bride's father joined in on the festivities with bride and groom face tattoos. Many laughs were had by all! Outside of that, we would definitely say the dancing at the reception was a blast!
5. The most memorable moment was when...
All of it! every aspect of our wedding vacation was memorable to both us and our wedding guests. It was a vacation and a wedding dream and we are so happy with how it all turned out and the memories that we will forever share!
6. Three words that sum up your destination wedding experience are:
Magical
Perfect
Beautiful
7. Besides the wedding itself, what was your favorite part of your trip? Did you do any activities with your guests?
We did our Rehearsal Dinner off property at Sunset Mona Lisa was a magical place. This was a restaurant that Derek and Chelsea had been to prior in 2016 and we were very excited to share that with our family and friends.
8. If you could travel anywhere for your one-year anniversary, where would it be and why?
Great question- If we could, we would love to go back to Nobu Los Cabos
9. What would be your biggest piece of advice to future couples planning a destination wedding?
Do your research, set your expectations, be clear and effectively communicate what you want. Don't be afraid to bargain shop to ensure your budget conscious of how much weddings can cost. Keep a vision board so you can visually see how things will all turn out, especially if you are doing a destination wedding. If you want to save money by doing a destination wedding, consider an all inclusive resort and keep your wedding guest count to the package offers because anything more than that will incur additional expenses to you. And lastly, once you get to the destination location, take a breathe, and enjoy every minute! trust that all the planning you did leading up to your special day will pay off!
