Since Taylor and Ian spend a lot of time at Bird Rock Coffee, we began our session with a cup of coffee before exploring for bougainvillea-filled alleyways. Never underestimate the power of an alley, my friends. They’re often full of beautiful flowers and natural reflectors that make a perfect combination for engagement photos. By this point in the session, we stumbled across the most gorgeous backlit patch of bougainvillea that paired perfectly with the couple’s soft blue outfits.
After leaving Bird Rock, we drove to Windansea to chase the setting sun. Taylor’s stunning blue gown looked amazing with the bouquet created by Compass Floral. Flowers always make a beautiful detail for engagement sessions and I highly encourage that my brides invest in one for their session. I mean, what bride doesn’t love flowers?
At one point during the session, I asked Taylor and Ian if they had any pets, to which Taylor replied with a hopeful no. She explained that they do desperately want a French bulldog, but aren’t in the right place for a dog just yet. As if a genie in La Jolla heard our conversation, a precious French bulldog puppy showed up on the beach not ten minutes later and Taylor and Ian couldn’t contain their excitement. I asked the owner if we could include the little grey pup in some photos and she was more excited than I was about the idea. It’s a miracle none of us sneakily ran off with him, as his precious face and sand-covered nose were almost too cute to handle.
