This image set is from a recent trip with two close friends to Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. Gran Canaria was the first stop on a two week Europe Trip. When planning the trip, my photographer friend and I prioritized scenic hikes, warm weather, and spectacular views. We aren't the detailed planning types, but knew roughly which parts of the island we wanted to visit and where the best vantage points were. All timing and detailed planning was left to last minute spontaneity. It lead to quite a few jogs up to summits to catch fading light, and celebratory beers to bask in the mountain top beauty and the success of our instinctive planning. Between cloud top sunsets, morning coffees in a cave hostel overlooking endless mountain ranges, and sand dunes fitting of other planetary science fiction, Gran Canaria never let us down. It's terrain was inspiring and diverse. We prioritized light packing for the trip, as we wanted to be agile for hikes, and frequently had to carry all of our belongings. I packed all of my clothes and cameras in my 10 year old, trusty north face backpack from my college days. I prioritized portability in my camera selection as well. I brought along my Leica M-A and Summilux 50mm loaded with Kodak Portra 400 35mm film, my Contax T3 as a dedicated black and white 35mm camera (tri-x of course) and for medium format my ultra portable Fuji GF670 folder. I shot Kodak Portra 400 medium format, and one roll of 16 year expired Ektrachrome E100SW that produced some beautiful and unexpected color shifts. All film processing done by my favorite folks at Photovision Prints. Enjoy the beauty of the Canary Islands, and the permanence that film brings to those memories.
